The Muse Journal is thrilled to introduce the maiden edition of The Mid-Semester Spotlight, a sensational New Voices Series with the purpose of spotlighting and showcasing new voices. This series differs from our annual general submissions as it is open only to student writers in Nigeria who have not yet been published. Our goal is to uplift the emerging creatives and give them the recognition they deserve. Each accepted piece of The Mid-Semester Spotlight will be published online immediately, and will showcase the most outstanding pieces from each genre. The best pieces will also be included in our upcoming printed issue.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

  • In this series, we are seeking  creative beauties that are genre-bending and explore profound issues.
  • We accept works of poetry, fiction, non-fiction and one-act plays. 
  • Length: Send in poems of not more than 20 lines; we accept up to three poems in one file. Short stories should not be more than 3000 words; we also accept flash pieces of 1000 words and below. One-act plays should be in a running time of 10 to 30 minutes and about 3000 words
  • Manuscript: While we appreciate the cursiveness of other font styles, we’d prefer you send to us using the Times New Roman, font size 12 with double-line spacing, to ease the reading process. 
  • Do not include any form of identification in the body of work. Attach a seperate document detailing your bio. 
  • Save the file with the title of the work. (For more than one poem, save the file with the title of the first poem in the document)
  • The Muse Journal allows for simultaneous submission, but do well to inform us if your work is accepted elsewhere so we can celebrate with you. 
  • The journal reverts all intellectual rights to the author. However, if the published piece is republished elsewhere, we expect to be credited as the first publishers.
  • Use “THE NEW VOICES SERIES” then genre in the subject line. For example: THE NEW VOICES SERIES: POETRY.
  • Feel free to resubmit during the general call for submission for No. 51 if your work is rejected in this window.
  • Our response time may vary based on the activities of our editors. However, expect a response within seven days of submitting. 
  • Submission closes October 31st, 2023 at 11:59pm GMT+1.
