HUMAN
he sees fire
& tells a friend to embrace it for warmth.
he claps to the swiftness
of a child crawling into the sea.
he raises a hand in praise
to the blind man without a staff.
blood, he calls good wine.
blood, he calls sweet drink.
GHETTO
these ones own the earth too
rags on dusty skin, bodies
beaten to stillness by harmattan.
Yet, they rise with the morning sun,
wheeze with the evening breeze,
dance to the dryness of bone and flesh.
these ones own the earth too
as they chase cars to sell items,
pace the streets to gather themselves,
swarm the roads in numbers.
though they hardly know
what becomes of the day or them,
their limbs are fueled to hit every path
that brings luck & brings home.
