We heard the explosion, it came like a roar.
the mass of flames heaving to the sky
in a flash of sight, we saw dreams/ hopes/ destinies
reduced to ash. Even the living could not identify their dead.
The land lay in a garment of smoke.
The streets were paved in ashes like tar.
Darkness, silence and grief lit the town in a splutter.
We saw the town fold into a seam of sighs & prayers.
We heard the explosion, it came calling
& no one could stop it.
Favour Sia Gborie studies English and Literary Studies at the University of Nigeria Nsukka. She loves God, enjoys stringing her violin and is particularly fond of the dramatic genre. She hopes to be a renown writer soon enough.
Such a wonderful piece, Sia!
Well done👏
